Complete the 45 hour course requirements with the real estate school of your choice.
We recommend the New York Real Estate Institute for your pre-licensing courses, conveniently located in Manhattan at 132 West 36th, 2nd floor as well as in Long Island at 24 Oak Drive at Jericho Turnpike Syosset, New York . A list of other qualifying schools can be attained from the New York Department of State Licensing division at 518-474-4429 or online: http://www.dos.state.ny.us/LCNS/realest.html.

Pass the real estate school examination and receive a certificate stating that you took the course and passed the exam.
The School Completion Test is given every Monday at 12:00 at the Manhattan location; test dates for nights and weekends are available as well. The test is also given at all other locations.

Successfully complete the NY State Test.
This is a one hour exam given each Tuesday in Manhattan at 123 William Street, 19th Fl. Test fee: $15. You can take the test either before or after you complete the pre-licensing course. Please be aware that it can take approximately four to six weeks to register for the NY State exam, so we suggest that you book the exam day at or around the same day that you commence your 45 hour course. Click here to register now. Or, alternatively, you can register to take the state exam in Albany, as registration wait time is less than one week.

After passing the pre-licensing course and the state test, find a New York State licensed real estate broker to act as your sponsor – hire you.
Once sponsored, you and your broker must complete and sign your license application. You will then be eligible to obtain a salesperson's license.

File your license application with the Department of State.
You can do this in person in Manhattan at 123 William Street, 19th Fl, or by mailing it to the NYS Department of State in Albany for processing and receive it by mail at your broker's. You must submit your application, signed by you and your sponsor, along with you NY State Exam “passed” slip, which you will receive within one week of the exam date, and a check for $50 payable to the NYS Department of State.

Receive Your License & Pocket Card.
Your sponsoring broker will keep your license in his/her office. You must sign your pocket card and keep it with you at all times.
